Q: Because of extraordinarily high housing and apartment rental costs, there are rumours going around that people in Calgary -- particularly new arrivals -- are living in their workplaces?

A: I live just south of Calgary and have NOT heard of people living in their office buildings. I'm sure security would discover such an incident. People are, however, living in camp grounds and with people that they hardly know (like a boarder) and unfortunately some are even in the streets (families too). It is really sad this state of affairs. I still have yet to understand the ridiculous cost of homes here. We are just about to move in to our new home and it is costing us almost one million dollars to build the damn thing. As far as I'm concerned, it should have ONLY cost (maybe) $450,000............. and that is a big maybe. If you are considering moving to Alberta, be sure you have an income (or combined income) of at least $80,000..... believe it or not, that will just get you by. Sad, I know. We make more than double that, don't live beyond our means and are JUST comfortable. Can you believe it? Good luck! mb
