Is it a good idea to move to Calgary for a job???

Q:

A: Currently, the job market in Calgary is booming. There are so many jobs available in Calgary they can't fill them. People are finding it impossible to get affordable housing. Here's some things to consider before you make a move: Unlike other large Canadian cities, Calgary does not have a diversified economy. Toronto, for example, is the centre of Canada's business, media, entertainment, publishing, film, transportation, manufacturing, and tourist industries. Montreal is the centre of many of these things in French Canada. Vancouver is Gateway to the Pacific, and is a centre for Pacific Rim businesses, shipping, tourism and film and media. Calgary is oil and the service industries that come with it. That's pretty much it. The price of oil is high and Calgary will boom. The price of oil dips below $60/barrel and suddenly that $300,000 home you bought in Calgary in 2002 is worth $280,000 in 2010. While there will always be a need for oil, the move is AWAY from fossil fuels and TOWARDS renewable energy sources. That could mean big trouble for Calgary and Alberta's economies. Just some food for thought.
