What to do in Calgary for New Years?

Q: I'm looking for ideas: coolest / most interesting / fanciest / least fancy / most popular, etc. Names of bars, restaurants, clubs, etc would be greatly appreciated.

A: Are you from out of town? What are you interested in? I'm more a pub person living in the NW so I always lean towards Kensington Pub, Molly Malones or something like that. If you are in downtown Calgary and want something really laid back you can do the Drum and Monkey which is mostly indie rock and punk music....Lot's of hoodies, jeans and t-shirts. If you would like something a little quieter and mellow you can try the Hop in Brew which is right around the corner for great pizza and lovely home brews. If you are looking for clubs I would recommend: A) Amsterdam Rhino for awesome beats and a more laid back indie crowd B) The Warehouse if you are into the more darker side of things... I'm not sure what their line up is for New years but they are always a little underground and a little moodier then your average club. Lots of piercings and dark clothing. C) The Back Alley may work for you if you're more of a classic rock person. Nuf said. There are other clubs around ie: The drink, the whiskey, Tantra, etc but I'm not too familiar with them. I've never stepped foot in them myself because I'm more of a pub girl and not a huge fan of house music and top 40. If you're looking for a great place to have dinner and drinks before you hit up a club I would recommend the Vicious Circle. It's my favortie Martini bar in the world with awesome music and tasty snacks. They have a cover charge on New Years, I think so you may want to look into it.
