A: Grande Prairie is a city of around 60,000 people. It's a fairly expensive place to live with all the oil and gas activity in the area. Services and shopping are on par with much larger cities to the south - just without the crowds. Commercial air service is available in GP, as well as Greyhound bus service. Grande Cache is not a city - it's a town with a population of approximately 4000 people about two hours south of Grande Prairie, and is located on the edge of the Canadian Rockies. The town is surrounded by mountains and the scenery is wonderful. Many people who move to Grande Cache consider the town a little isolated (the closest town to GC is Hinton - 145km to the south). Services can be a little limited especially for someone moving here from a larger centre. But Grande Prairie is only two hours away and many of us drive there for our shopping. Rents are rather high; for a house you could be looking at $1000-1500 and up. Condos aren't much cheaper. Housing prices tend to be a bit on the high side, but single family homes are available from just over $200,000 (the lower priced ones may need some work). There is a bus service available to connect the town with both Grande Prairie and Hinton. I wouldn't think there's much chance of finding work in the IT field in Grande Cache. The major employers here are a coal mine, a lumber mill, a federal prison, and oil & gas industries. Feel free to contact me through my profile if you've got any more questions about Grande Cache (or even Grande Prairie).
