does canada do ultraounds on Sat? (regular drs appt)?

Q: Ok my friend met this girl from online. He lives in the U.S. she lives in Canada. A month later she moved to U.S. and had sex first night. Anyways she moved back. Lat week she told him she was 5half months pregnant. At first she said she was having a girl. Than changed it to she hasnt had an ultrasound yet. Thurs. she went to drs, but was supposivley not scheduled til Fri. Fri she slept through her appt. so they set her up for one on Sat. Do drs in Canada set patients up for ultrasound on Sats? My honest opinion if she is pregnant I dont think its his. She admitted to cheating on him when she went back to Canada. Than after denied it.

A: I think you're a little confused here - first of all most ultra sounds are done before 16 weeks and they are not done at your regular doctor's office usually. Here general practitioners would not have that type of equipment in their office. If she was seeing an OB - they likely would have one but most are too busy to do one on a whim. Here most ultra sound patients here are booked days to weeks in advance at health care companies who specialize in ultra sounds. You can't just call them on your own for one - you need a doctor's referral and must take your request papers your doctors gave you with you. They are health care facilities that do ultra sounds, ex rays, etc and don't have regular doctors there only technicians. The results are then sent on to the doctor who sent you there originally. While only a few select of these offices have Saturday app'ts it's quite unlikely they would have been able to fit her in on such short notice since many wait weeks. While hospitals do also have ultra sound machines they are usually reserved for patients in the hospital, emergency situations and if you're lucky enough to have OB GYN who has offices in the hospital. And "No" you can't just walk in and expect an app't with one of these obgyn's as they are by referral only. I couldn't begin to guess whether or not she is in fact pregnant - I'm just letting you know that doctor's rarely have openings like the one you're describing and the likelihood of getting in for a ultra sound within a day unless it's urgent is also unlikely - especially in Alberta - I can only assume she lives here because why would you be asking in Edmonton travel questions? I can't speak for the rest of Canada but I think it's safe to assume that the likelihood of getting an app't for an ultra sound at such short notice is not very likely. Hopefully this answers your question - it might be advisable for your "friend" to investigate this situation further or wait until they can do paternity tests. It really doesn't matter what you believe but I do think your friend has a responsibility to find out whether or not she is indeed pregnant and if the child is his - doesn't matter if it was only one time - he has to bear responsibility also. Good Luck.
