Q:

A: Pixie: Being a single parent makes some of us feel isolated and just in the need of finding friends to connect with. There are lots of groups in the city geared to single parents where they can network with others in the same situations (male and female) I think by joining some of the groups it already gives you a "way in" because everyone there will be looking for the same thing. Once you can connect with a couple you can then network to find others to form a wider group of friends. Forget Whyte Ave and places which are geared more to the student population. You need to find friends that you can find common interests with. You could try volunteering at some of the community centres that have groups for Moms and Tots. Here are some sites for single parent groups within Edmonton. http://singleparents.meetup.com/384/ http://www.meetmarketadventures.com (just for fun) http://hipmama.meetup.com/337/ http://groups.msn.com/ParentsAroundEdmonton/homepage I good place to check for events is: http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/ Other places to check for singles events is in the Edmonton Examiner which you can access online at: www.edmontonexaminer.ca Bars and pubs are not great places to meet singles for "friends" - try to look for community groups which have activities for your child - you will be surprised at how many young moms attend. Meeting new girl friends will lead to meeting new guys also. Good Luck
