A: To get a Health Card, you have to be a Canadian citizen or a Landed Immigrant. If you are moving to NS from within Canada, you are eligible on the first day of the third month following the date you established residency here. For example, if you established residency in Nova Scotia on September 27th, MSI would provide coverage on December 1st. If you are moving to NS from outside Canada, various rules apply, depending on whether you are coming as a permanent resident, on a work permit, or as a student.
