Q: My husband and I are taking the kids to Nova Scotia. We intend on taking the kids to the beach, however, I've never walked on a beach or seen an ocean and I'm wondering if there are any dangers I should be aware of. Should I have the kids wear water shoes? What about sand crabs? or other sand things?? I'm a little nervous about going to the beach, it's not like a swimming pool at all. : )

A: There is nothing particularly dangerous living on Nova Scotia Beaches. People walk on them all the time without incident. Beaches in Nova Scotia can be on the rocky side, so in some cases, it would be good to have shoes. But there are also lots of nice sand beaches. Depending on where you go, you should be prepared for the water to be cold. The Atlantic Ocean does not warm up much. If you want to swim, the best place to go is probably the Minas Basin. You'll love the ocean. Have a good time!
