Is Halifax Nova Scotia Pet Friendly?

Q: When it comes to dogs, is Halifax generally pet friendly? Is it common for dogs to be allowed in apartments ? Thanks :) Also, how much is the average, decent one or two bedroom apartment? - One more thing - what kind of deposits do landlords look for?

A: Not as much as in Toronto, for example. The "No pets" rule in Halifax really means no pets. That's illegal in Toronto, but in Halifax it can be enforced. They're also stricter about letting pets in malls (none whatsoever, unless guide dogs, of course), and no pets on buses/public transportation. I've seen pets in malls/on the TTC in Toronto without any problems. Dogs are not usually allowed in apartments, although some people do have them. It depends on your lease. As for rent, you can get a nice 1-bedroom from 650-750, and a 2-bedroom from 850+. It depends on the area, though. The South end is nice, as is the downtown area along Spring Garden road, although they tend to be most expensive. Also try the West End (near Halifax Shopping Centre). They have nice apartment buildings that arent too pricey, and easily accessible by bus. Rental deposits cannot exceed half a months rent. The landlord has to return the deposit, plus interest accrued once you leave the apartment, if it's left clean and in good shape.
