How is the public transportation system in Nova Scotia?

Q: I would like to avoid renting a car and would particularly like to get from Yarmouth to Halifax. Is there public transportation to get me between the two cities? How about getting around the rest of Nova Scotia? Thanks in advance!

A: You won't find a provincial public transportation system in Nova Scotia. You may be able to find a local taxi that will take you from Yarmouth to Halifax. Yarmouth isn't a city - it is a small town of about 7000 people. If you are taking the ferry to Yarmouth from Bar Harbour, most likely there will be something arranged in Yarmouth for people who want to get to Halifax, since tourism is very important to Yarmouth. However, if you plan to see more of Nova Scotia, the best way really is to rent a car. You will be able to travel by bus between some of the larger communities that are close to the Trans Canada Highway, but you would miss many great places if you can't get off the beaten track and explore. There are a few bus tours available, though you might need advance reservations. Contact Nova Scotia tourism for more information.
