Q: What regions are the nicest? Which neighbourhouds should one avoid? Is the McGill student ghetto a very noisy place?

A: All depends if you want to live in the 'French' part or the 'English' part. The French are more concentrated in the east of the island, the English in the west. It's a good idea to avoid the Hochelaga area....not the safest of areas. I lived out by the Olympic Stadium. Not the greatest of areas, but it was in my price range. I also lived on the south shore. I would NOT recommend it. And yes, the ghetto is noisy...especially at the beginning of the school year.
