Q: I am looking for a good hotel to stay in, close to downtown montreal that are good for children that are young, and possibly has a swimming pool that is under 100 dollars american. I was looking at the auberge al htl paris (sp) it is a renovated mansion that is 100 years old, has anyone stayed there? I need some help. Thanks

A: The Auberge Hotel de Paris at 901 Sherbrooke Street East is actually a youth hostel as I understand it, so it will definitely be cheap, but I don't know what type of service you will get there and what quality the rooms will be in. Plus you may be kept awake by the partying youths! If I were you, I would probably be looking at something in the city between Sherbrooke Street West and Rene Levesque Boulevard (north-south), and between Atwater and Universite avenues (east-west). That is much more the heart of the city and has all the museums, shopping, clubs, and restaurants. I don't know how young the children are, but the Pepsi Forum has a theater, Dawson College and McGill University are close by to walk under the trees and play in the sun protected from traffic, and a subway ride or taxi can get you to St. Helen's Island and the La Ronde amusement park (Six Flags). If you are staying a while and want a place with a dinette kitchen where you can cook your own meals, you can check out La Tour Belvedere Hotel. Within that area and your budget there are also the Clarion Hotel and the Residence Inn by Marriott. A bit higher ($125) is the nice Hotel de la Montagne, and children under 16 stay free in parents room.
