Q: I live in Michigan and would like to send a typical Graphic Novel/Manga (to give you an idea of the size/weight) to Quebec Canada. I can't really figure out how to work the UPS website and I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea. Somehow the site claimed it would cost around 50 dollars but I'm HOPING that's not right.

A: I couldn't calculate on the UPS site because you need the city in Michigan and the city in Quebec. UPS is quite costly though. I ordered things from the U.S. and usually ship with international mail . It took 4 days for a package ( this was including July 4 holiday)from Rochester, N.Y. to Montreal, Quebec. The most it cost me was $15 for a small box. UPS would have charged me $23 U.S.+ customs charges. For a priority mail International package with United States Postal Service for a 1 pound package $15.20 when bought on-line. I never use UPS! They will charge you brokerage fees. Canada post handles the package once at customs. Make sure you fill out a customs declaration form and check the gift box. Books are charged taxes and duty if they aren't gifts.
