Q: I'll be in the Proctor Park area of Thornhill for a short time. Are there any decent public transport links with downtown Toronto? Any help appreciated.
A: Yes! Take the number 2 bus (on Henderson or Doncaster) south/west all the way to FINCH STATION. That is a subway station which is the most direct connection with downtown. I don't know how York Region Transit/VIVA works w.r.t. transfers. You might need to pay a second fare at Finch Station, or a transfer might let you on. Take it southbound, and take a transfer at Finch station if you need to take a bus or streetcar once you get downtown.
