Q: I live in Toronto, but am flying out of JFK next month. I dont mind this, as the flight was cheap and it gives me a chance to spend a few days in the big apple. However, i now need to find a way to get there which is also cheap (hence no flight), and is fairly direct (i have a lot of luggage). What would you suggest? I could do with a few websites/companies to look at and compare prices etc. Is the train a viable option? Do you have to switch at the border? Oh...and after looking at a few of the other answers on this site, please dont all answer that 'plane is the only way'. I have been searching around and $180 is the cheapest i could find, compared to $45 for 'megabus'. Having spent a summer in Toronto without working, i could definitely use the extra cash. That said, if there is a better site than travelcuts for cheap flights, by all means let me know. Thanks!

A: I took the train from Toronto to New York on Via Rail (which switched to AM Track when you cross the border. There is no need to switch trains, only the staff does.) It was a ridiculously long journey, though, about 10 hours with the 2 hour stop at the border. Atleast on a train you have more room and can get up and get food. I'm sorry, I don't remember how much it cost, check out the amtrak (sp?) site, it should give you an accurate price.
