Why is speed so strictly enforced on the 401 highway?

Q: The stretch between Chatham and London is CRAZY! I'm talking about undercover cop cars every 15 minutes, it's also aircraft patrolled, and real cop cars parked in "hidden" spots every 10 or so minutes. There are also signs posted every once in a while that remind drivers of the fines and points for speeding. I've driven on a lot of highways and have never seen one that is this obsessed with speeding. What's up with that??

A: That stretch of the 401 is notorious for accidents throughout the year and it's even worse in winter when there are such terrible whiteouts. Law enforcement is strict in an effort to get travellers to slow down because the accidents are mostly caused by speeding. Combine that with tired drivers and driving under the influence and you have the answer to your question.
