Do you need a passport to fly from Chicago to Toronto?

Q: Please provide a link to the source for your answer. Thanks.

A: Technically all travel into the US except from a US territory requires a valid passport. Since you are travelling to Canada in theory you could fly without a passport however you would not be able to return to the US by air. In practise airlines can require you to present a passport for travel outside of the US and can refuse you boarding if you fail to present one. If you are a citizen of Canada returning home then boarding privileges can be granted however if you are a US citizen then you may find yourself unable to board without a passport. http://www.dhs.gov/xtrvlsec/crossingborders/ http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
