How is life in Vancouver/ Victoria, Canada for an American?

Q: I just got back from a visit from Vancouver Island and loved it. I'm currently in the California Bay Area and I'm so sick of it. I'm tired of the rude, self-absorbed people, cost of living, traffic. I grew up in the Twin Cities in Minnesota and found the people in Canada much more like people there. I know there is a big difference in visiting somewhere on vacation and living there so I'm open to opinions about life in Vancouver or Victoria. Thanks!

A: I grew up on Vancouver Island, on a small coastal town just northwest of Victoria. Went to college in California, and now living in Seattle. If you want to move to either Van or Vic, coming from the Bay Area, I would recommend Van first. Van has a lot more to offer and having lived in major metro cities, you will find the transition a lot easier. Vic has a more pronounced relaxed pace of life and Van is more vibrant and energetic. Either way, you will love living there!
