Moving to Vancouver?

Q: I want to move to Vancouver from Houston, TX. Does anyone have any information on what needs to be done. besides the actual moving process? What do I need to do about citizenship? What about finding work there?

A: Sadly, you are not going to be able to just move. Unless you are just visiting, you will need some sort of visa to get into the country. This can be a temporary work visa, or you might arrange to become a "permanent resident", which would allow you all the privileges of being in Canada except for citizenship, the right to vote, and such things. There is an extensive process for doing this. To become a citizen, the first steps are to become a permanent resident, then spend 5 years living in Canada. If you are seriously considering this, I would suggest you do some research. The place to start is the Citizenship & Immigration Canada website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html , this is an exciting step in your life, but it will require considerable planning. There are lots of stories of people who just show up at the border with all their possessions in the car or in a U-Haul truck. Unfortunately, you will be disappointed when they turn you away. Follow your dreams! But please do the research first. Good luck to you!
