Q: I rented a car in Washington and went to Vancouver,BC for a weekend trip. During the trip I got a parking ticket at Vancouver ( 31.8 Canadian dollar). How do I handle this parking ticket (I have already came back to Washington)? Do I need to pay this ticket? Anybody has similar experience? Thank you.

A: Handle it just like an American parking ticket. You can plead guilty and pay the fine, or try to contest it and then may have to go to court. Keep in mind that since it was a rental car, if you ignore it, the rental agency will be issued the fine with interest charges. They will most likely then figure out that you were renting the car that day and forward you a bill or get it authorized by the credit card you used to rent the car. If you pay it now and get it out of the way, you may just pay $31.80 but if you wait and let the rental agency have to deal with it, you can bet it will be much higher. The City of Vancouver has a website that you can look up the ticket number and pay it online. Just try the website I provided below, or do a search for "vancouver parking ticket"
