Q: My wife and two infants will be moving with me. I am interested in learning about the job market (specifically finance type jobs for my wife), the cost of living, crime/safety, quality of schools, weather information, and demographics of the area. Any useful information would be helpful. Thanks in advance! My wife and two infants will be moving with me. A: I wouldn't exactly call it a "town"... its more like a collection of cul-de-sacs on the wrong side of a federal border and one small harbor with a marina for people's boats. Pretty much any shopping needs you have will require a trip into Canada... it is totally cut off from mainland Washington. They don't have a school on Pt. Roberts... the kids have to be bussed through Canada and re-enter Washington across the bay over at Blaine. It will likely be really hard for both of you to find a job there and Blaine is a good half hour drive/40 minutes on a good day at the borders and as much as 3 hours wait time on holiday weekends etc. Not sure about medicare... likely there's just a medical clinic and anything more drastic would possibly get you a helicopter ride to the hospital in Blaine. Think of Pt. Roberts like living on a small island with limited services. It has been articled in the papers in past years as being a great jumping off point for marajuana and cocaine smugglers into and out of Vancouver. Even a student on the school bus that passes through Canada was arrested for being paid to smuggle drugs. I'm not making it up either... check it out: http://www.thenorthernlight.com/archives/2005/tnl_january27/fp1.html
