Q: I am going to Vancouver (from Hong Kong) for a family wedding and am bringing a watch and a piece of jewelry as gifts. Will I have to pay customs at the airport... in which case, could it be cheaper to buy these gifts after I arrive?

A: My thought is that it is probably cheaper to bring it with you. Gifts you bring into the country are exempt of tariffs up to the value of $60 per gift. So you can bring as many gifts as you want in, and will only pay for those over $60. There is a probability you gifts are over $60 each, so be prepared to pay up to 8 %.
