Q: Hi! I plan to move to Vancouver late next year from UK- London, So i need to know the cheapest area/ location of Vancouver for rent prices, I mean i know that no where in Vancouver is ever going to be particulary cheap but maybe you can tell me where me be cheaper compared to other parts of Vancouver without it being a slum i am looking for something in the region of $800 or less with out it being in the slums or is this virtually imposable? As a second option i was considering Montreal if anyone knows if this is cheaper than Vancouver and if i can rent for $800 or less a month and if so what area and also what are both Vancouver and Montreal like for employment opportunities? Many thanks.

A: We just moved here last week (to BC). I've also lived in Montreal... Our rent in New Westminster is $675 per month. The neighbourhood is pretty good..the apartment is a bit sketch, but whatever, it's the right price at this time! Try vancouver.craigslist.org for apartments. New Westminster is up and coming, Burnaby is good as is Richmond. Surrey has the greatest potential for being slum-like. Hope this helps. I prefer the weather here to Montreal! My rent back then was reasonable...try craigslist for Montreal...good luck. About employment, it depends on what field you're in.
