Q: I've been hearing a lot of stuff about the crime rate and drug problem in Vancouver and the gangs and gun-violence of Toronto... so I was wondering which one was better to live in?

A: According to the 2004 rates, Vancouver has the greater crime rate. This is/was much helped out by the HUGE problem with B&Es and car thefts. Toronto and Vancouver have been going neck and neck with being the more expensive city to live in. I believe Vancouver is winning that category as well. As far as which city is better to live in? well, that depends on what you're looking for. Toronto has some cool communities and neighbourhoods, but Vancouver has wilderness has our backyard. As far as worrying about gans and gun-violence in either Vancouver or Toronto, it's there and sadly some innocents have been taken down in those crimes. BUT keep in mind that there are many many people in both cities who have never been personally touched by gang violence. When you are making your decision as to where to move, try not to let the crime temper what you ultimately decide. YES, when you move to whichever city, look into the areas that you should avoid (every city has them), and always use street-smarts. Good luck with your decision.
