Q: I'm a Filipino - Singapore P.R. holder and I intend to apply for a Canadian Tourist Visa... has anyone tried applying for one? Is it okay to apply without an invitation from relatives/friend from Canada? I only intend to visit for 2 weeks. I'll appreciate answers.... Thanks a lot in advance

A: The only advantage you get (if, indeed, it is one) is that by being a permanent resident of Singapore you can apply at the Canadian embassy/consulate there, instead of the one in the Phillipines. Do you need an invitation to visit? Certainly not! However, you DO need to meet the criteria for a visitor: - - - prove that you have the finances to cover your term of stay - - - that you have stronger ties elsewhere (like a job, family, that you own real property, etc) - - - that you intend to leave after your stay is over - - - and (perhaps) that you have a good medical history (no communicable diseases, etc) Remember - not only do you have to convince the consulate to issue you a visa, but you ALSO have to convince the Customs and Immigration officials when you arrive. Simply having a visa does NOT guarantee you will be allowed to enter the country. I hope you enjoy your trip!
