Q: I asked a question on here before about leaving the airport in Vancouver during a layover, and that seemed fine, but then someone else said that they don't want you to if you're flying overseas from there. I'll be coming from Winnipeg and flying to Hong Kong 12 hours later....so I don't really want to sit in the airport that whole time. I don't mind having to go through security and customs again, but does someone know for sure whether or not I'm really allowed to leave?

A: If you are collecting your bags, I don't see any reason you can't leave the airport and come back to check in again for your next flight. But if you leave the airport and leave your baggage behind (if the airlines are handling it during the layover), that's a security issue (imaging someone planting a bomb in their bag, checking it, then leaving the airport to be out of harm's way when the bomb goes off). You might have major problems with security when you get back to check in for your next flight. The only way to know for sure is to contact the airline you'll be flying to Hong Kong and ask them.
