Q: My husband, son and I are heading to Vancover, CA in March and I was wondering is there stuff for our son (who will be 5) can do and have fun? We are also going to Whistler, CA. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

A: I have a five year old, and he LOVES the Aquarium and Science World. He also loves simple (and inexpensive) pleasures like taking the Skytrain from end to end and the seabus across Burrard Inlet. Another thing my son loves is the Bug Lab in New Westminster. It's really inexpensive and way cool for any child who loves bugs and such. March can be rainy, so hope for the sun but plan for lots of wet. Make sure that you all have water-proof footwear. I've included one of my favourite urls of links to fun things to do for families in the lower mainland. Oh - a thought - if you're looking for a good non-fast-food place, try White Spot and order a Pirate Pack for your son. And finally a note on Whistler - I took both my kids there a couple of years ago. Its very beautiful, and very expensive. I had a heck of a time finding a playground for them. There are playgrounds there, but it can take a bit to locate them. And - careful about bears. I'm not sure if the bears are still sleeping in March, but the Whistler area has quite a few black bears. Have a great trip!
