My family will be migrating to Vancouver Canada. Any advise for migrants as to the place, job & housing? Thx.?

A: You probably have your immigration information, but here's a link - just in case you don't. http://cic.gc.ca/english/ As far as advice, my first thought is to prepare you for the outrageous prices. The entire Vancouver region is quite expensive when it comes to housing and gasoline. Even public transit is expensive! There are a lot of jobs, but most of the jobs listed in the newspaper and on the various job-search websites are the entry-level, lower paying jobs. Ideally, you will have done your research prior to your move. Figure out exactly what you want to apply for, what your skills are and go from there. Ideally, you will begin your job search (monster.ca is a good site) prior to making your move. I'm sure it will make the transition for your family so much easier if you have a job lined up prior to moving. About housing - careful about what you pay for. There are low-rent houses in certain areas that you wouldn't want your family moving into. I'm thinking about the down-town-east-side of Vancouver (Main and Hastings area), and certain apartment buildings... before you commit to renting a home, check it out in person. Contact the local police force to find out if that apartment building is "well known" to police or not. If the police frequent the building, stay away. Good luck in your move. I hope that you find Vancouver is the perfect place for you and your family and that you all settle in quickly!!
