Q: Have 3 hours to spare. Maybe there is something interesting to visit on route? I have 7 hours in total to drive from Whistler to vancouver airport so I am thinking I will have some time to spare. Am going in mid-March. Any ideas of something to do without driving back into Vancouver?

A: I agree with the others, you will probably need the three hours for travelling with construction on the Sea to Sky Highway and a risk of slides in rainy weather you can't predict delays. You can't really avoid the city when you are going from Whistler to the airport. Going the longer route around the city is uneventful and is just surburbia. A real shame in come to Vancouver to not see any of it. Coming back from Whistler I would stop in Squamish and check out Shannon Falls which are the tallest falls in BC. There are a few spots along the highway coming back as well which you can stop at and take pictures of the amazing views. Drive down to Vancouver perhaps stop in Horseshoe Bay which is located in West Vancouver and check out the ferries, grab something to eat, check out lighthouse park, then drive into Vancouver over Lions Gate Bridge. You can drive around within Stanley Park rather then through it and it is a great quick scenic drive. Just take the first exit after the bridge. You will end up in English Bay and you can head over Burrard Street or Granville Street bridge enroute to the airport. Have fun. -The Sea to Sky Highway is very curvy and if you are driving at night it is very daunting, the cornes are sharp in places and the average speed is somewhere around 60km/hour. Police fines are double in construction zones and there is always a cop somewhere along the highways giving out tickets.
