Q: I am an American. I have a restricted-class firearms permit which allows me to carry shotguns, rifles, or certain types of pistols into Canada (you don't actually have to be a Canadian citizen to get these permits, oddly enough). I plan to go to Cache Creek, BC to meet up with some guys who live there and go shooting. But I'm going to Vancouver first. Where around Vancouver can I buy some ammunition and accessories? What are the best gun shops in the area? Where can I meet up with some Canadian gun enthusiasts in the area?

A: You can check with Canadian Tire stores to see if they are legally allowed to sell you ammunition using your firearms license. Otherwise, your best bet is to contact a local gun club and ask either the manager or members there where they get their ammo. Make sure to read your Canadian regulations on gun and ammo storage carefully. It would be a terrible trip if you came up here as a tourist and ended up with a criminal record or deported for not knowing the requirements here. And if there are any dogs around, make sure they don't hold a grudge on you...see the article below.
