Q: I have been thinking about biking from Ontario to Vancouver at the end of September 2008, camping along the way. Someone mentioned to me that I should stay off the Trans-Canada as much as possible; just citing traffic. What route is best for going East - West? I can see some roads that run parallel in the prairies and I was planning on taking the Crows Nest Pass through B.C. Any information, input or resources would be appreciated.

A: End of September? Prepare for snow and cold, and then when you get to Vancouver, lots of rain. It *might* be nice.. but it might be cold as.. well.. you know. Are you thinking of riding a bicycle or a motorbike? A bicycle will take much longer than a motorbike (obviously), and considering how much distance you plan on covering, well, you may want to reconsider your start date. Something to consider - especially as you get into the mountains in Alberta and BC - a lot of the campgrounds will be closed for the season. It's a very ambitious plan, and I'm sure that when you do it, you'll have an amazing trip with lots of memories.. but please consider the distance and the seasonal weather!
