Q: We want to combine train with air travel because of time-constraints. What would be the best/most scenic route? e.g. train: Vancouver to Jasper or Edmonton (the Rocky Mountaineer train to Calgary is a tad too expensive for our pockets)? Air travel: Are there flights from Jasper or Edmonton to Winnipeg? Any other ideas? thx

A: The train to Jasper is beautiful. I think that would be a great way to get in a lot of the beautiful scenery in B.C and Alberta. You can't however, take a plane from Jasper. It may be worth it to take the train all the way to Calgary. Here you could catch your flight. Check out West Jet Airlines and Air Canada Airlines as they are our major and least expensive airlines. I flew from Winnipeg to Calgary and back and it was a very inexpensive flight, look for seat sales! Another option is renting a car, it doesn't have to be pricey. My husband and I rented one in Calgary and drove it to Banff and had it for 4 days and it cost us only around $50.00 plus another $30.00 through private insurance. So renting a car could be cheaper and you would have the advantage of stopping to rest whenever you please or pulling over to view some of our lovely scenery! Have fun in Winnipeg (that's where I am from!) Hope this helped a little!
