A: Most of Vancouver was pretty safe to walk through even at night. But be careful of East Hastings street. It has a bad reputation and a well deserved one. It's a stark contrast to some of the nearby areas such as gastown which is a popular tourist draw. Even during the day, you will see the homeless lying around, drug dealers, and the look of the area is just of a rundown type. I accidentally walked through there, luckily during the day, and I swear I saw a drug deal go down. At night, it gets worse. I don't have anything against the homeless, some are harmless... but of course there are some that aren't... why take a chance? Generally this is the area between gastown and chinatown.
