If you drive about 30 minutes south of the border you will arrive in Bellingham, Washington which is a good size and 20 minutes south of there is Burlington and Mt. Vernon, Washington. There are no major cities on the US border adjacent to Vancouver which is about 35 miles north of the US/Canadian border
