Q: I am thinking of moving to Vancouver. However, I only want to live in a "downtown-ish." Nothing against the outer-areas or anything. But I am born and raised urbanite and want to live in a place where i can walk/bike to my local store, shops and restaurants. Plus I'm going to be living with a person, and we only have one car. So I don't want to be dependent on it (I am not looking to buy a car). What is the cost of renting a decent sized (600 ft2 - 900 ft2) apt in either West End, Gastown, Chinatown or Yaletown (this does not need to be luxury)? If someone could give me a sound description of the neighborhoods, I would greatly appreciate it. How is public transportation? I have been to Portland, OR and they had a great system for a Pacific Northwest city.

A: Youre looking at $1000+ per month at places starting at around 600sqft. Be them studios or 1 bedrooms. Maybe try also looking into the Commercial drive area.. it is a bit cheaper and an awesome atmosphere and not as many Yuppies!(no offence lol) Just look up housing on craigslist.com in Vancouver. Transportation is okay, could be better, but its best in vancouver compared to surrounding areas.. all depends on where you need to go and what time though.
