Q:

A: There are two main reasons. 1. Manitoba is in the western half of the central time zone, which means the sun rises and sets later ther than on the eastern part of the central time zone. 2. The best reason is because Manitoba is pretty far north. As you approach the Arctic Circle, the sun seems to stay up longer, because there is less "curvature" of earth above you (towards the north pole) to come in between you and the sun as the earth rotates. In summer, when the earth's axis tilts the Northern Hemisphere toward the sun, you get more sunlight, both in heat and length. The Arctic Circle is so named because above it, daylight seems to last 24 hours in the middle of the summer, and there is nearly 24 hour darkness in the winter. Hope this helps! I would love to live in Manitoba, but I'm stuck down here in Houston! :(
