How can I fly round-trip from Australia to the states cheap?

Q: I'm flying in June (early) from Brisbane to Manitoba, Canada but also want to visit friends in the states. I need to get over there cheap and find cheap flights to get around and then up to Winnipeg. Apparantly there's a thing called an 'airpass' that allows a few stops. Know anything that might help a gal with a tiny budget?

A: I know StarAlliance offers a RTW Pass (Round the world pass) where you can select destinations where airlines in the alliance fly to, for a set price. Contact your travel agent for that, or visit the Star Alliance website (Other alliances might have them) If this RTW pass doesnt work, your best bet is probably fly from Australia to the states (Maybe via Qantas or United?) then, a seperate ticket from the states to Canada, or the other way Australia-Canada, then Canada-States. You might be able to do a multi-city, but it is usually cheaper to do two seperate itineraries. A great place to search are some airline forums, flyertalk.com is a great place to start!
