Q: I'm moving to Winnipeg next year. Does anyone know any good neighborhoods? how's West End? thanks How's real estate in Winnipeg. Is it better renting than buying? I heard the housing price in Winnipeg has gong up a lot. Which are do u suggest? Now, I know west end is not a place to go!

A: I lived Tyndall Park, Fort Gary, Fort Richmond, Downtown, Wolsley etc. Best neighbourhood: in the south of the city. (Fort Gary, St Vital, Fort Richmond etc) Crime can happen anywhere, but it is less common there. (eg someone tried to break into my apartment across from Victoria Hospital, but nothing happened when I lived on Broadway in the downtown) West End depends on where you are. (and where you consider it) I lived in Wolsley and loved it. Felt safe, great for walking, and the Tall Praire Grass Bakery was to die for. :) I know people who lived further in the west end that had their place broken into 5X. Housing is okay. It seems that areas like Charleswood/Tuxedo people are having bidding wars on their homes and getting more than the asking right now. Other places like North End you cant sell your home if you gave it away. My suggestion....rent for a bit and see where YOU feel comfortable living. As you can tell by what I said, so much is what you experience and what your own comfort level is. Call the local police station and ask them about the crime stats where you are exactly living. I did that when I moved to the city and it was really helpful. Always do the safe thing and even when renting, get your locks changed etc. Enjoy Winnipeg...I've been gone 4 years and I miss it sometimes. :)
