Q:

A: Depends on where they grew up, it seems more people from Southern Manitoba are more apt to speak French than the North. There are many different Metis people in Manitoba. Some speak French and some speak English. I know over 100 Metis people in Manitoba and the only reason some of them speak French is because they took it in school. None of their parents or grandparents speak it. (and these are people with last names like Chartrand, Riel, Legeunesse, Lagmodiere which are common Metis names etc) Some do speak it, but not the ones I knew. (Most people think Metis is French only because of history with Louis Riel and NW Rebellion. There are other Metis who are of other European descent as a result of the first settlements and they were not French eg Scottish) The official language of the Metis is "Michif" though
