Q: I will be In Winnipeg in September, can you recomend any good resturants, and places to stay while I am there. thanks I am from the U.K., and will be there for three weeks. its purely a pleasure trip.
A: Take it from someone who knows- Winnipeg is a really great city and I hope you enjoy it. The other poster is right- the Fort Garry hotel is great but very expensive, as are the restaurants listed... Could you give me an idea as to the purpose of your visit (i.e. business? pleasure?). This would help a lot in giving you specific suggestions on where to stay and where to eat. EDIT Okay, great! That actually does help. For a pleasure trip, you can stay pretty much anywhere in the city. I would recommend you check out www.hotelsbycity.com- they have all of the Wpg. hotels listed there. However, I would recommend you use the 'how many stars' search option and have a minimum of 3 stars as your starting point. Anything less will likely be unpleasant. If you have a hotel in mind but want to know more about location, etc, feel free to PM me. For restaurants: we have everything you could want from fast-food to fine dining. A middle of the road option is Applebee's; you can get good meals for about $10-15 CDN per person, more if you have alcohol. Other options would be Bellamy's, and Perkins. Perkins is a chain restaurant with several locations around the city. They are also open 24 hrs. Others will recommend Earls and Moxie's- however, if you will be with children, you should know that the servers tend to dress scantily and suggestively. Not exactly bikinis and high heels, but skintight/very low-cut tops, very low-rise pants/skirts, etc. Lots of skin showing. Plus, the meals are very small and very pricey, as are their drinks. If you have access to a car while here, you should really also check out the possibility of driving out to one of our provincial parks- most are within 1-2 hrs driving distance. You can camp, swim, rent a cottage, go hiking, etc- lots to do. Plus, September is usually still summer weather- anywhere between 20 to 30 C is average. Getting around Winnipeg is easy; you can drive, take the bus, or take a taxi. We don't have a subway or any other form of public transportation except for the bus system. If you have any more q's, please PM me. Happy planning!
