Why don't people from Winnipeg love their city more?

Q: Why not make it better than it is if you hate it so much. And if you don't hate it, why don't you celebrate the city?! It makes me very sad that Winnipeg has tremendous potential. So why don;t you all come stay at my place for free in the states? I'll show you Washington, DC, New York, Boston, and I'll tell you why Winnipeg has something NONE of these other places have. AWESOME! I was depressed because I had a question about "Isn;t Winnipeg an amazing city?" And my question got deleted and cursed at. Now I know other people feel differently. I was at the Folk Fest and LOVED IT!!!!

A: Sometimes, we get passionate about the city's shortcomings because we care. There are some parts of Winnipeg that have a quality of life that is second-to-none Go for a walk on a warm summer evening in River Heights and even after dark you'll see people out for a walk or occasionally with their front doors open. Even many Winnipeggers have no idea how pleasant some of the neighbourhoods are in their own city. Other areas of town, however, have some serious social problems. In one rough part of town, the majority of working-age people have never finished high school. I'm not sure what the figure is for Winnipeg specifically, but Manitoba as a whole has an infant mortality rate in the same league as Croatia and Lithuania -- ouch! Our challenge as Winnipeggers is to appreciate the good aspects of life in Winnipeg (and there are some very good aspects to it), while keeping up the passion to fix the things that need fixing.
